POLISH STADIUMS FOR EURO 2012 ///

tango 12

The 2012 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as Euro 2012, will be the 14th European Championship for national football teams sanctioned by UEFA. The final tournament will be hosted by Poland and Ukraine between 8 June and 1 July 2012. It is the first time that either nation has hosted the tournament. This bid was chosen by UEFA's Executive Committee in 2007.

Warsaw, Gdańsk, Wrocław and Poznań, the host cities in Poland, are all popular tourist destinations. The bid package requires the expansion and modernisation of roads and transport links. The obligatory improvement of the football infrastructure includes the building of new stadiums: three venues are brand new stadia; the remaining in Poznań has undergone major renovations. SWIFT TOWER COMPETITION FOR WARSAW ///

swift tower

Our project was awarded in a design competition for swift's nesting tower. STOP (Birds Protection Society in Warsaw) will work to implement towers, so that Warsaw would become not only Europe, but also the world capital of swift, ambassador of his protection. Mayor of Warsaw, Mrs. Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, took the honorary patronage of the 'swift tower' project.

One of the biggest problems of swifts in Poland is the loss of nesting sites. Modern construction is devoid of spaces, where the birds could nest. Old buildings are being renovated in a way that slots and holes where the birds nested are cloged. Unfortunately, the presence of birds in buildings during renovation causes intense conflicts between bird lovers and investors. However, few people realize that their presence is very beneficial to humans because they eat huge quantities of insects which are very oppressive to us.

One of the best ways to protect these birds is to create safe nesting sites. Construction of small architecture forms would provide safely to birds near the man. STOP wants to start a construction of such facilities. If you want to support the campaign visit dedicated website to learn more about the work of the society and methods of assistance.

BELIEVE IN CHILDREN - BARNARDOS ///

There are thousands of disadvantaged children in Ireland. Many of them have stories that would break your heart. Some of them are capable of terrible things. But if, like us, you belive that no child is born bad, then you can't watch someone get dumped into the file marked 'problem'. You can't let society play pass the parcel with a young person's life. If a child is referred to Barnardo's they stick by that child. They listen, they look for potential and they give practical support. They belive in him.

Check out www.barnardos.ie and learn all about Barnardos’ work and how they change the lives of children in Ireland.

BABEL BY AIDAN LYNAM ///

‘Babel’ is a response to Ireland’s property boom and the consequences of its collapse. The work aims to encourage a critical examination of the societal changes and transformations that impacted on the built environment as well as the cultural, economic and political landscape of the country. The ‘Tower of Babel’ is used an allegory to represent how Dublin’s property bubble spiralled out of control.

The sculptural installation takes the form of a 1:200 scale architectural model. The architectural model was chosen to represent ‘Babel’ as a means to re-appropriate a language of presentation used by developers and real estate agents as a marketing tool. The clearly imagined development of Dublin as a modern day tower of Babel is used to reflect the very real hubris of time.

Babel is currently on display in the Irish Architectural Archive 45 Merrion Square, Dublin 2.
