Open House Dublin logo

This year the OHD programme featured 100 great buildings, from the obvious to the overlooked. Representing a diversity of building types and uses, OHD offers visitors the chance to explore several buildings within a type or to spend the weekend moving around the city, hopping from commercial to cultural to domestic to fashion to government. This year’s 100 have been chosen to surprise and delight the public, each one offering a unique insight into Dublin’s architectural story.

Below is the selection of photographs we have taken during the event. One of our photos has been selected as "runner up" in The Open House Dublin Photo Competition, which now has become an annual tradition.

/// The Chocolate Factory

Intended as a new creative community for Dublin, the former Williams & Woods building on King’s Inns Street is being refurbished and brought back to life. The factory’s concrete frame and beautiful paned windows act as a strong backdrop on each of the four floors. The interventions to subdivide and fit out the space have made creative use of recycled materials, with particularly imaginative repurposing in the rooftop urban farm. An exciting and ambitious project mixing design and the spirit of D.I.Y.

/// No.14 Henrietta Street

One of the last houses to be built on Henrietta Street, 20 years after Dublin’s finest Early Georgian street was laid out by Luke Gardiner. The house’s original plan was derived from 30 Old Burlington Street in London. From the 1880s, the house was converted and used as tenements, with the 1901 and 1911 Censuses recording 17 families comprising 100 people within this single house. The Dublin Tenement Experience opened in July 2013 for a limited period, to present and recreate the tenement story for a modern audience.
